THE CENTER FOR BALANCED LIVING

Who We Are: We are a nonprofit organization that supports people through eating disorder recovery. We are whole-heartedly committed to putting our clients and the community first. Being a nonprofit allows us to have a high staff-to-client ratio, making it more possible to stay in line with our mission to give each client individual, quality care. Our multidisciplinary team of therapists, dietitians, and medical staff all aid in our clients’path to recovery.

What We Do: We have four main levels of care:

outpatient, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, and a 5-Day Program for anorexia. We treat the full spectrum of eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder and all variations. Our team is trained in both eating disorder recovery and general mental health, allowing for comprehensive care when eating disorders coexist with depression, anxiety, alcohol/substance abuse, etc. Our care is founded in current neurobiological research. We approach food as “medicine,” providing individualized meal plans prepared by registered dietitians and “dose” food based on macronutrients. We actively involve family/supports and integrate movement into treatment.

Why We're Important: Most people either know someone who has an eating disorder or struggle with disordered eating themselves, but often don’t know where to start seeking help. Our mission is to spread hope and awareness that help is available. As the only eating disorder treatment facility for adults in Central Ohio, we feel it is important that people know that we are here. We hope that through our efforts to treat, educate, prevent, and research in the area of eating disorders, we can foster balance in the lives of all persons served.

How We Impact the Community: Free support groups are held twice a month at The Center, and are open to anyone (including family/friends of those struggling with eating disorders). With the support of our generous donors and community, we’re able to help clients overcome difficult barriers to treatment, such as lack of transportation or insurance. The following client quote illustrates the impact that donated “scholarships” have had in recovery: “Scholarship funds made it possible for me to meet with my dietitian more frequently for an extended period of time... I made progress I never thought I could make, in an area of recovery that is the most challenging for me.”

How You Can Help: We welcome and encourage you to support The Center in ways that are meaningful to you. The Center depends on community support for all programs not covered by insurance such as treatment scholarships, educational programs for families, and outreach to schools. 100% of your financial gift goes to the area you designate. There are also free ways to get involved, such as shopping through Amazon Smile and Kroger’s nonprofit rewards program (thecenterforbalancedliving.org/other-ways-to-give). If you are interested in having someone from The Center come and speak to your organization or group, please contact lori.johnson@thecenterforbalancedliving.org. We are incredibly grateful for your support in this life-saving work.
