Who We Are: Since its founding in 2008, Pelotonia has grown into a movement that inspires meaningful collective action by mobilizing purpose-driven communities and accelerating funding for innovative cancer research. We are a community of people whose lives have been affected by cancer and who were inspired to do something about it. Whether that means cheering along the side of the road during our annual bike ride, hosting a fundraiser, utilizing our newly released app PULLL, making a donation or volunteering their time, every single person who is a part of this movement is making a difference in the advancement of
What We Do: As a centerpiece of our year-round fundraising efforts, Pelotonia hosts a three-day experience that includes a weekend of cycling, entertainment, volunteerism, and community. The event begins with an Opening Ceremony on Friday evening, followed by riders gathering at the start lines on Saturday and Sunday to begin their journey cycling between 25-200 miles. The weekend comes to a close when our two-day riders end at the finish line on Sunday afternoon. This year, we launched a new fundraising app, PULLL, that allows users to generate funds for cancer research through exercise. Now, users throughout the world can help unlock dollars dedicated to cancer research.
Why We're Important: From inception to our 2018 ride, Pelotonia has raised more than $180 million dollars for innovative and life-saving cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center–Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC-James). Pelotonia dollars support key areas within Ohio State’s cancer program: idea grants, student fellowships, investment in the lab and work of the brightest minds in cancer research, tools for discovery and statewide initiatives, studies and trials. Without funding from Pelotonia, many breakthroughs in the advancement of cancer detection, prevention and treatment may not have otherwise been made possible.
How We Impact the Community: Year after year, through the dedication of our riders, virtual riders, volunteers, donors, and now PULLL users, Pelotonia’s community continues to grow in Columbus, Ohio, and nationwide. Thanks to the incredibly generous support from our local funding partners, 100 percent of every dollar raised by Pelotonia riders, virtual riders and volunteers goes directly to fund cancer research at OSUCCC-James. As a direct result of these fundraising efforts, Pelotonia researchers have developed life-saving drugs, discovered cancer-causing gene mutations and saved thousands of lives, and we’ve only just begun.
How You Can Help: When it comes to getting involved with Pelotonia, there truly is something for everyone. Anyone in the world can register to use our fundraising app, PULLL, and unlock cancer research dollars. In addition, anyone who would like to participate in the annual ride weekend can do so by registering and fundraising as a rider, virtual rider, or volunteer. Pelotonia wouldn’t be possible without the support and dedication of 3,000+ volunteers who cheer on and keep 8,400+ riders fueled while managing logistics along the route. Participants go the extra mile by sharing their experiences and inviting their friends, family, co-workers and neighbors to join them as supporters and donors in this movement to end cancer.
