Who We Are: Mid-Ohio Foodbank works in the community to connect our hungry neighbors with nutritious food, stabilizing families today while helping them access resources for tomorrow so they can thrive for a lifetime. The Foodbank is the largest hunger-relief organization in central and eastern Ohio. We acquire donated food from farmers, manufacturers, retailers, food drives and businesses across Ohio and the country. We also receive food commodities through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the State of Ohio. The Foodbank partners with an agency network comprised of some 680 local charities across 20
counties to provide food directly to people in need.
What We Do: Mid-Ohio Foodbank is ending hunger today, tomorrow and for a lifetime. We provide enough food for about 140,000 meals each and every day to help stabilize families, connect hungry neighbors with community services to help them toward economic sufficiency, and energize the community to address root causes of hunger so everyone thrives. We are leading the conversation on Food Is Health by exploring innovative approaches for our hungry neighbors to access affordable and healthy food to measurably improve health outcomes. We work hard to create and apply technologies, using data to innovate and inform our work.
Why We're Important: One in six Ohioans – and one in four children – does not know where their next meal is coming from. At Mid-Ohio Foodbank, our mission is to end hunger, one nourishing meal at a time while co-creating communities where everyone can thrive.
Hunger costs us all. It afflicts our healthcare system, erodes our public education system, depreciates productive workforces, and forces tradeoffs between spending decisions that can destabilize homes. Mid-Ohio Foodbank distributed about 65 million pounds of food last year, half of which was fresh. Yet there is still a gap. Each year, hungry neighbors in Franklin County miss about 69 million meals. Across our footprint, 145 million meals are missed.
How We Impact the Community: The Foodbank partners with an agency network that includes after-school programs, community centers, daycares, emergency shelters, faith-based organizations, food pantries, senior centers, and soup kitchens to provide groceries and meals directly to people in need. The Foodbank’s South Side Roots and other assets allow us to reach broadly and deeply across demographic groups and geography to address the local needs of specific communities. This operating model drives robust efficiencies with $1 helping to provide $10 in groceries. Simply put, our work is only possible because of these incredible community partnerships.
How You Can Help: The Foodbank’s work is fueled by the thousands of individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations who make generous gifts each year through traditional philanthropy, including planned giving, corporate and employee giving. Our ability to feed 525,000 people each year heavily relies on this financial support, and we are deeply grateful to our donors.
Volunteers are the lifeline of our work. Each year, more than 11,000 community members serve 60,000 hours – that’s the equivalent of almost 30 full-time staff.
The Foodbank Advocacy Network (FAN) is essential in helping us advance our mission to ensure no one goes hungry. Sign up today.
