Who We Are: Founded in 1970, Children’s Hunger Alliance is a statewide nonprofit organization based in
Columbus with regional offices in Cleveland, Cincinnati and Toledo. Our mission is to improve access to food for children living in food-insecure homes, meaning they are unsure of where their next meal will come from. Children’s Hunger Alliance is committed to improving the well-being of more than half a million children in Ohio struggling with food insecurity.

What We Do: Our work includes providing healthy meals to hungry children, advocating for the welfare

of Ohio’s youngest citizens and teaching nutrition and physical education to those we serve. Children’s Hunger Alliance collaborates with numerous community partners through our sponsorship of the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program. Last year, together with our childcare partners, we provided approximately 7 million healthy meals to children.
Thousands more had the opportunity to eat school breakfasts and summer meals because of our advocacy work and support for increasing participation in both programs

Why We're Important: The work we do at Children’s Hunger Alliance to provide our most vulnerable citizens with
one of their most basic needs – food – is critical to the future of our children and our state. Nationally, Ohio ranks 14th highest in childhood food insecurity, clearly showing there is much work to be done to ensure our children have enough food. Research shows that children who regularly have access to nutritious meals not only are healthier overall, but
also perform better in school. Consistent access to nutritious food is critical for children to grow and learn, helping give them the best opportunity to become productive adults and break the cycle of poverty.

How We Impact the Community: While there are many food safety net opportunities for families in need, our work specifically addresses the issue of childhood hunger statewide. Through our partnerships, the children we
serve receive a healthy meal each day their care provider is open. While providing meals to children is certainly our primary focus, secondarily our work removes some of their financial burdens for families that may be struggling to make ends meet. Services provided by Children’s Hunger Alliance through the USDA federal food program also contribute to the economic vitality of our local communities by bringing money back to Ohio, helping childcare providers
offset the cost of healthy meals for the children in their care. Our work is critical to the children in Ohio that simply do not have enough food to sustain a healthy life

How You Can Help: Ohio’s 1 in 5 children struggling with food insecurity rely on the generosity of community members to help us provide them with the healthy meals they need. Our Lunch Money Challenge is one of many opportunities for individuals and organizations to join us in our fight to end childhood hunger. It’s as easy as giving up your lunch money to feed a hungry child for a day – visit to learn more. Another way to help is by making a
donation at ChildrensHungerAlliance. com/GiveMeals or texting FOOD4KIDS to 72727
