THE AMERICAN RED CROSS OF CENTRAL OHIO

1/6

Who We Are: The American Red Cross exists to provide compassionate care to those in need. Our network of generous donors, volunteers and employees share a mission of preventing and relieving suffering, here at home and around the world. Through a workforce that is comprised of 94% volunteers, our local chapter routinely turns compassion into action throughout Central Ohio by providing emergency disaster relief, services to the armed forces and collecting and processing blood products. Founded in 1916, the American Red Cross of Central Ohio has

been providing help and hope when it is needed most for the last 100 years, and will continue to make our communities strong and resilient in the many years to come.

What We Do: We roll up our sleeves and donate time, money and blood. We teach life-saving skills, such as CPR or fire safety, so our communities can be better prepared when the need arises. We respond to a home fire and provide a family with food, clothing and shelter. We fly a soldier home to see the birth of his child. We do this every day because the Red Cross is needed – everyday.

Why We're Important: The American Red Cross is always there, down the street, across the country and around the world, to provide help and hope. Every eight minutes, we respond to an emergency. We are there at the scene of a house fire, a tornado or flood to ensure that anyone affected by a disaster receives care, shelter and hope. We ensure that our communities are ready and prepared for a disaster through education. Our armed service members and their families receive support and comfort whenever it is needed and our community members have access to life-saving blood products.

How We Impact the Community: Throughout the last year, we have:

  • Assisted 1,850 families in response to local disasters, including house fires;

  • Collected more than154,123 units of red blood cells and 20,505 units of platelets;

  • Helped an estimated 4,650 military members, veterans and their families;

  • Trained nearly 51,976 community members in health and safety; and

  • Installed10,271free smoke alarms in homes.

How You Can Help: You can invest in the Red Cross mission by donating your time or blood or by making a financial gift. Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization and our everyday heroes. To get started as a volunteer, head to redcross.org/volunteer to sign up today. We rely on volunteer blood donors to keep our community’s blood supply stable and need an average of 500 donations each day in Central Ohio. To find a blood drive near you, head to redcrossblood.org for more information. The Red Cross mission is funded solely on the generosity of our donors. By making a financial gift, you are providing hope when it is needed most. To learn more, please contact Steve Lape at Steve.Lape@redcross.org or call 614-253-2740.
